Spreading the charms of Japan to the world from Fukui

Red dragonfly

There was suddenly a red dragonfly.

When I saw one, it was early in the morning.  If it was in the evening red sky, I’d remember the lyrics of Akatombo (red dragonfly).  This song is one of the most famous Japanese children’s songs.  (Y.Y)

The best dinosaur park in Katsuyama, Japan, Katsuyama Dino Park

Places to visit

Today, I visited the dinosaur park, “Katsuyama Dino Park” in Katsuyama city, Fukui, Japan. “Katsuyama Dino Park” is located in the same area where the third best dinosaur meseum in the world is. This museum is now trying to be the best one in the world. This park has just opened on April 24th, 2015 and it has already been visited by over 5 miliion of people. Not only children appreciate this place, but also adults enjoy it as well.

The park is a miniature version of the movie, Jurassic Park. It is not that big one so it takes about 15 to 20mins to walk and watch everything. They are planning to make this place bigger and bigger in the future.

There were many dinosaurs that looked real, scary, and or cute so a child got scared and cried when I was there today. My favorite spot was 4 small dinosaurs were trying to attack a big one. They looked like they were about to jump around and start attacking one for real. There are many speakers in each area. From speakers, sound of dinosaur roaring, eating, and or walking were plaiying ever where in the park.

Of course, I have never seen any real dinosaurs before but this place made me imagine how it would be like to live in the time when dinosaurs ruled the earth.

New Japanese morning serial drama

Random thoughts

The drama becomes popular because you can see a lot of pretty kimonos every morning.
Dressing is difficult but when you wear a kimono, it makes you think that you are glad
you were born in Japan. (H.S)

Colourful antumn leaves in a Japansese mountain, Mt. Akausagi.

Yesterday, I went on hiking with a hiking group to Mt. Akausagi which is 1,629 meters above sea level and located between Fukui and Ishikawa prefectures.

We took the long loop route in which we climbed from Ishikawa prefecture side.  Although people whom I went on with were older than I, they would go faster if I walked slowly.

Because the weather was very nice, we got to enjoy Mt. Hakusan scenery, blue sky and the contrast of autumn leaves between yellow and red.

I’ll tell you more about this hiking trip later. (T.S)

Fukui City Griffis Museum

Places to visit

Fukui City Griffis Museum opened on October 10.
In 1871, William Elliot Griffis became a teacher of Fukui feudal clan and taught Western learning such as physics and chemistry to the young people.
If you look at the watercolor paintings on display that are imagined from the diary and letters, you can imagine Fukui in those days. (Y.Y)
